It started with a forgotten microphone. A culinary student and bedroom producer, Benedict was making breakfast one morning in 2022 when he noticed a contact microphone still clipped to his cutting board. On a whim, he let it roll — and what came out of that session changed the trajectory of electronic dance music forever.
The track, titled Over Easy, layered the crisp crack of an eggshell against a discarded dubstep beat. Posted to SoundCloud on a Tuesday, it went viral by Thursday. The comments were unanimous: nobody had heard anything like it.
"I wasn't trying to invent a genre. I just forgot to put the mic away. The eggs did the rest."
